Uniting to Support Seniors in Lake Country during COVID-19

Updated: Apr 1

The elderly represent one of our most vulnerable groups in Lake Country. LCHPS is coordinating volunteers to provide extra supports and is turning to the community to help share the news about these services.

Many older adults are feeling disconnected because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the temporary closure of the Health Resource Centre, LCHPS staff are modifying services. With your support, we hope to reach out to and help local elderly and compromised individuals who may be feeling overwhelmed and alone during this crisis. Most of us forget that the internet and satellite tv are luxuries that may not be available in a home on a fixed income. And if you can no longer go out to coffee shops or the library for wifi, you are cut off from accessing free internet and online contacts and services. We're working with willing volunteers to keep our most vulnerable at home... The LCHPS team is pairing house-bound older adults to a volunteer caller. The friendly caller is committed to providing connections to the outer-world, share vital contacts to current information and support-lines about available COVID-19 resources or even help arrange or deliver groceries.

Most of us forget that the internet and satellite tv are a luxury that may not be available in a home on a fixed income.

LCHPS has a network of volunteers who, for several years, have been supporting independent-living older adults with trips to doctor appointments and errands. In response to COVID-19 modifications to service, provision was necessary. The Health Resource Centre located on Main Street is closed to the public. LCHPS staff are working to connect local recipients in need of service to willing volunteers.

Let us help you - register for the recipients' list:

• Receive friendly calls

• Share approved information and resources

• Have a volunteer go to the grocery store, pick out and deliver your order

• Loved ones can refer a family member or friend - consent will be required

Sign up to help - register to be on the volunteer list:

• Place friendly phone calls - every second day would be preferred

• Go to the grocery store to pick out/up and deliver the order
